Folkeklubben & Danmarks Underholdningsorkester - Extra Concert
Folkeklubben
,David Riddell, Dirigent
Description
They have taken a long break – from the live stage, from releases and from each other. Now Folkeklubben are finally returning, as they take over Koncertsalen and let their lyrical rock universe collide in a unique interplay with the skilled classical musicians of Danmarks Underholdningsorkester. Over the past 10 years, Danmarks Underholdningsorkester has made the journey from Koncertsalen to the country's largest venues and stages in inspiring, versatile and not least audience-loved collaborations with some of Denmark's best-known pop and rock artists. If anyone does, Danmarks Underholdningsorkester holds a broad musical repertoire - now it is the turn of Folkeklubben's songs, as the whole orchestra hits the road with the hit-making rock trio. The director of Danmarks Underholdningsorkester, John Frandsen, says: ”When we in Danmarks Underholdningsorkester throw ourselves into new collaborations, it is crucial for us that the artists have something to say that we can be inspired by, and that we can unfold in a symphonic format. We have no doubt that this is the case with Folkeklubben. Their songs hold both an intellectual sharpness and a broad popular appeal. They speak to Højskolesangbogen and to P3 at the same time. It is a rare combination, and perhaps that is exactly why their music stands so strong in our shared consciousness. Folkeklubben creates music with a strong narrative power, and their songs have an inherent grandeur that almost insists on being brought into play with strings, winds - the full colour palette of the whole symphony orchestra. We are really looking forward to it.” At the head of the orchestra stands the conductor David Riddell, long-time artistic director of Randers Kammerensemble and Aarhus Sommeropera, who has also previously conducted Folkeklubben in symphonic settings together with Odense Symfoniorkester. There is something at stake. And the three members of Folkeklubben - Kjartan Arngrim, Rasmus Jusjong and Rasmus Dall - know it as they return to the stage after a few years' break. ”We have been away for a while - from each other and from the music - to make room for reflection and calm. Coming back together with Danmarks Underholdningsorkester feels like exactly the right way to open the club again,” says lead singer Kjartan Arngrim, and continues: ”Playing with a symphony orchestra is in no way going to be a Sunday outing. We are going to let our songs loose in an awe-inspiring space that, if anything, represents diligence and absorption, and it will certainly be wildly terrifying, but hopefully also absolutely fantastic.” Folkeklubben made their debut 15 years ago. Their organic, folk-rock pop anthems hold the contrasts in all of us - the popular - and the band is anything but a closed club, embracing the whole spectrum. From the ’Danmark’ song with Suspekt to ’Danmarksfilm’ from Højskolesangbogen. They have had hits on the radio waves of P3 and Dansktoppen, met audiences in prime time on X Factor and under the open sky with hits such as ’Fedterøv’ and ’Sort Tulipan’. Six albums in all have been made - most recently the highly acclaimed ’Mere end en klub’ from 2023. When Folkeklubben and Danmarks Underholdningsorkester take over Koncertsalen, it will be a musical meeting between power and sound. The audience can look forward to a very special concert format, where the interpretations of the band's songs gain new dimensions in the interplay between strings, winds and electric guitars.
