Danmarks Underholdningsorkester
Danmarks Underholdningsorkester is a unique orchestra in Danish musical life, both in its construction and in its musical profile. The orchestra's roots stretch back more than 80 years to its foundation in 1939. From 2015 the orchestra went from being part of DR to becoming an independent, musician-owned orchestra, which has meant that the orchestra has become even sharper in its core competence - uniting symphonic music at the highest international level with broad popular appeal.
This undogmatic approach rubs off on the orchestra's approach to classical music: together with chief conductor Adam Fischer they continually find new means of expression, push the boundaries of the repertoire, take educational and outreach initiatives and explore new concert formats and venues. The orchestra has gained broad international recognition through this 27-year collaboration with Adam Fischer, and it has resulted in no fewer than two prestigious ICMA awards for recordings of Mozart's and Beethoven's symphonies respectively, as well as a highly acclaimed complete recording of Brahms's symphonies.
Besides the wish to communicate classical music, the orchestra has also developed a sharp popular-music profile and has collaborated with, among others, Dizzy Gillespie, Katie Melua, Luciano Pavarotti, Mads Langer, Placido Domingo, Rasmus Seebach, Sarah Brightmann, Stig Rossen, TV-2, Tim Christensen, Sebastian, Kwamie Liv, Pernille Rosendahl and Burhan G.
