Swan Song in Haslev Kirke

Description

This concert has big emotions at stake: young romantic love and beautiful, contemplative sounds. The programme begins with Sofia Gubaidulina's "Quasi Hoquetus", a work for the low instruments inspired by a medieval rhythmic technique, which the composer develops into a powerful and sonically captivating piece. Next we meet the very young Shostakovich, who was only 16 when he wrote his highly romantic piano trio with an almost impressionistic piano part. The trio was dedicated to his young sweetheart Tatyana. The work has only 1 movement and was first published 60 years after it was written, and although it is a youthful work from his student days in Leningrad, it shows traces of the later Shostakovich we know. Traces that point forward and did not please the Russian professors at the conservatoire. As a contrast to the high-strung works, Per Nørgård's beautiful, introverted piece for solo harp, "Swan Descending" from 1989, is played. The concert concludes with excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev's vivid music for the ballet "Romeo and Juliet", which tells of the young lovers' iconic love in the face of life and death. Programme: Sofia Gubaidulina / Quasi Hoquetus for viola, bassoon and piano Per Nørgård / Swan Descending for solo harp Dmitri Shostakovich / Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor Sergei Prokofiev (arr. Fabrice Pierre) / Excerpts from Romeo and Juliet Suite, Op. 64
