Description
In October 2025 Aalborg received a visit for the first time from one of the world's best violinists, Roman Simovic, when he was soloist in Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 with Aalborg Symfoniorkester. On a daily basis he is 1st concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra and plays a Stradivarius violin built in 1709. His incredible virtuosity and great musicality have taken him around the world, both as soloist and as orchestra leader with orchestras such as the Mariinsky Theatre Leningrad, the Academy of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, Camerata Salzburg, RTE Madrid, the Prague Philharmonic, Sao Paolo in Brazil, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in Budapest, among others. As a young man he won a whole series of prizes in major violin competitions in Italy (Lipizer), Switzerland (Sion-Vallais), Russia (Yampolsky) and Poland (Wieniawski). He is often invited to major music festivals such as Verbier, Bergen, "White Nights" in St Petersburg, Dubrovnik, Granada, Portogruaro in Italy, and others. There he likes to play together with other world stars of classical music such as Yuja Wang, Evgeny Kissin, Janine Jansen, François Leleux and the like. He is also a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and travels around giving frequent masterclasses in the USA, Asia, Australia and all over Europe. He is represented on the LSO's own record label, both with solo works by Ysayë and Paganini, concertos by Bartók and Miklos Rózsa, and as artistic director since 2010 of the LSO's string section. He is joined at the piano by the Italian pianist Enrico Pace, a likewise distinguished gentleman. Pace comes from Rimini and in the eighties won two major competitions that launched his career: the International Yamaha Competition in Stresa, and the 2nd edition of the Franz Liszt Competition in Utrecht. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the Concertgebouw, the Munich Philharmonic, Bamberg, Santa Cecilia in Rome, the BBC Philharmonic, among many others, and in Scandinavia both in Göteborg and Stavanger. As a solo artist he has toured many of the great halls: La Scala di Milano, Wigmore Hall London, and further in Berlin, Salzburg, Prague, Dublin and several places in South America. His enormously sensitive legato playing has taken him to the great festivals in Lucerne, Verbier, Schleswig-Holstein and Rheingau. But a large part of his time goes on chamber music. He has long collaborated with violinists such as Frank Peter Zimmermann and Leonidas Kavakos, the clarinettist Sharon Kam, the cellist Daniel Müller-Schott, the singer Matthias Goerne, the Keller Quartet and Quartetto Prometeo, among others. He has recorded Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano with the cellist Sung-Won Yang, Bach's violin sonatas with F. P. Zimmermann, and in 2011 a lovely solo album appeared with Liszt's "Années de Pèlerinages".
