Swan Song in Maribo

Description

At this concert big emotions are at play: young romantic love and beautiful, reflective sounds. The programme begins with Sofia Gubaidulina's 'Quasi Hoquetus', a work for the low instruments inspired by a medieval rhythmic technique, which the composer develops into a powerful and sonically captivating piece. Then we meet the very young Shostakovich, who was only 16 when he wrote his highly romantic piano trio with an almost Impressionist piano part. The trio was dedicated to his young sweetheart Tatyana. As a contrast to the high-strung works, Per Nørgård's beautiful, inward-looking piece for solo harp, 'Swan Descending' from 1989, is played. The concert ends with excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev's pictorial music for the ballet 'Romeo and Juliet'. Programme: Gubaidulina / Quasi Hoquetus for viola, bassoon and piano Nørgård / Swan Descending for solo harp Shostakovich / Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor Prokofiev (arr. Fabrice Pierre) / Romeo and Juliet Suite, Op. 64 (excerpts)
