Description

How does the past sound when we listen to it from the present? Resonance Across Time connects Mozart's Oboe Quartet with music by Lil Lacy, Gudrun Lund, Jens Laursøn Emborg and Carl Nielsen. Eva Steinaa, principal oboe - Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Kapel's string ensemble and the pianist Denisa Pîrvulescu invite you to a chamber concert where the singing voice of the oboe is the common thread through different musical expressions and line-ups. Mozart's Oboe Quartet in F major, K. 370, opens the programme with close interplay between oboe and strings, bringing out the instrument's lyrical, virtuosic and elegant sides. Lil Lacy's Reflection for oboe quartet and piano then widens the soundscape with the voice of the piano and creates a new framework for the ensemble playing. In Gudrun Lund's duet "Till Ulla", Op. 17, two oboes meet in direct dialogue. Jens Laursøn Emborg's Three Little Pieces, Op. 55b, adds yet another Danish composer's voice to the programme, before the concert ends with Carl Nielsen's Two Fantasy Pieces in Hans Abrahamsen's arrangement for oboe and strings. Here the meeting of composer and arranger gives the concert's idea of resonance across time a concrete form. The evening is not only about the differences between the works, but also about the connections that arise when they are heard together. Through changing line-ups, the programme invites you to hear both the new and the familiar with fresh ears. Programme W. A.
