Christmas Concert with Panumkoret

Description

Christmas gathers people around the big questions and the small joys; around light in the darkness, the wonder of the miraculous and the power of communal singing. Panumkoret weaves these threads together in this year's Christmas concert. The starting point is the deep roots of the European choral tradition; we encounter the Latin liturgy of the Middle Ages, which formulated the mystery of Christmas with a precision and beauty that still moves us. From the tradition of the English cathedral schools we draw music that links the medieval festive culture with the 20th-century renewal of choral music, with the same focus: the event that Christmas celebrates is greater than words can contain. We continue to the Scandinavian Christmas tradition, which is in itself a musical narrative - of winter darkness set against the light that pierces it; of the arrival of the Christ child and of the communities of Christmas traditions; through Swedish Romanticism and its melodic warmth to the tradition that carries the Santa Lucia festival from Southern Europe up to the winter days of the North - all of them are about the victory of light over darkness. The Danish Christmas song holds its own special world; our great hymn tradition - rooted in the music of the 18th century - created melodies and texts that still stay in the bones of most Danes. We carry this heritage on, both by singing for and with the audience - Welcome to a Christmas concert with Panumkoret.
