For over two thousand years the Song of Songs has inspired and fascinated with its poetic meeting of religious and human love. This evening you can experience a handful of masterly interpretations of the timeless texts with DR Vokalensemblet and honorary conductor Marcus Creed. Experience the devotion, physicality and mysticism of the Old Testament's famous Song of Songs unfold through magnificent choral music – from the sensuous sound world of the Renaissance to the intense musical language of the 20th century. The evening's main work is the French composer Daniel-Lesur's great choral work Le cantique des cantiques, and with the Renaissance masters Palestrina and Orlando di Lasso the music flows with clarity and balance, as the voices weave in and out of one another in an almost floating song of praise. With Vagn Holmboe's Liber Canticorum we are led into a Nordic, concentrated expression, where both words and sounds acquire a special weight, while Louis Andriessen in Un beau baiser gives the familiar verses a modern, tremulous presence. An evening awaits full of timeless portrayals of love, vulnerability and transcendence – where DR Vokalensemblet and honorary conductor Marcus Creed let centuries of music mirror the human longing to be seen, heard and loved.
