Mozart: Clarinet Quintet, K. 581 Performers: Kenneth Larsen, clarinet; Stinus Christensen, violin; Mads Haugsted Hansen, violin, Martin Jochimsen, viola; Jonathan Slaatto, cello The Viennese Classical school takes over Pro Musica Salen with both its innovative forefather and its divine superstar this evening, where we let the good-hearted Papa Haydn and W.A. Mozart himself be the slices of bread around a sandwich filling, a world premiere for viola, bassoon and piano by Anders Koppel. Haydn's String Quartet in C major, the "Emperor Quartet", is cheerful and full of life throughout, but is known mainly for the variations on the composer's fine song "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser", which would later go down in history as Germany's national anthem. Next, our ears will be the first to hear a brand-new trio by the 80-year-old birthday boy Anders Koppel, before after the interval we enjoy one of the most beloved chamber works in music history; Mozart's "Stadler Quintet", in which a warmly singing clarinet enters a delightful dialogue with the strings and creates the perfect balance between melancholy and joie de vivre. Powdered wigs and buckled shoes are not a requirement - but we will almost feel that we sense them in the chamber hall. Programme: Haydn: String Quartet in C major, Op. 76 No. 3 Koppel: Trio for viola, bassoon and piano Mozart: Clarinet Quintet, K. 581
