In brief about the festival Hindsgavl Festival is one of Europe's leading international classical chamber music festivals – with an edge towards brand-new music. It takes place in a concentrated, continuous programme over 8-9 days, where musicians and audience live side by side in the beautiful surroundings of Hindsgavl Slot near Middelfart. In 2018 the festival could count its 50th season, since 1951. With the historic castle as its setting, the festival combines, in the finest way, intimate concerts with world stars, young talents and new sound art with magnificent surroundings that invite relaxation, exploration and physical activity. Closer to the music One of the festival's basic ideas is to convey classical and new music in a way that reduces the distance between music and audience. Musicians and audience not only live together at the castle, but almost daily it will be possible to hear the musicians rehearse – completely informally, and after breakfast the audience has the opportunity to talk with the musicians about the previous day's concert. The festival also offers lectures and panel discussions with musicians and composers, moderated by, among others, Danmarks Radio's Mathias Hammer. The festival's three strands International names Each day offers classical chamber music concerts with top international names. Names that are not yet so well known in Denmark are often presented, and many international artists have made their Danish debut at the festival. Alternative stage The festival has a series of avant-garde music – brand-new composed music reflecting how classical chamber music is developing right now. Besides creating an exciting contrast to the classical concerts, it creates a fantastic dynamic at the festival. Our experience is that listening sensibility is sharpened, and that we listen differently to the classical music after the encounter with the new. Young talents Young classical talents from all over Scandinavia are invited to Hindsgavl, where they play afternoon concerts and get very close to the world stars. A complete experience Hindsgavl Festival is known as a unique complete experience for both audience and musicians. While the musical level is high, the informal and relaxed community is also an important part of the festival. Between concerts and rehearsals there is ample opportunity to enjoy the castle, the gastronomy and the surroundings, and time to take part in the festival's spontaneous and planned activities, for example football in the summer sun or immersing yourself in history with a tour of the castle and park. The beautiful surroundings with park and bathing jetty down to Lillebælt, forest and deer park invite both running and swimming trips and exploration and relaxation.
