BAROKTOBERFEST 2026
Baroque music - fresh from the barrel!
Two days of baroque music, folk music, communal dining, folk dancing and musical surprises in the middle of Copenhagen.
On 23–24 October, Camerata Øresund once again invites you in to Baroktoberfest - our informal celebration of baroque music, where the joy of music and the magic that arises when musicians and audience come closer to one another hang in the air.
This year we head north. From Icelandic folk tunes and yearning sounds to festive vocal music and the melancholy and majesty of English baroque - and a meeting between baroque and folk music that finally sends us straight onto the dance floor.
Over two days you can experience four concerts with Camerata Øresund and international guests, join in the communal dinner, explore music you may never have heard before - and end the festival with bagpipes and folk dancing.
Baroktoberfest is for both dedicated baroque fans and for those who are simply curious. Together with fantastic guest musicians, we want to offer enriching musical experiences, but there is no need for formality. We create a warm and relaxed festival atmosphere with room for absorption, community, food, drink - and plenty of musical enjoyment.
Come to one concert, stay the whole evening - or take in the whole of Baroktoberfest.

At 18:00 – 18.45 Prelude: Communal dinner
Come and join us as we kick off Baroktoberfest together with a cosy communal dinner and an exclusive musical prelude! We lay the tables in the crypt of Koncertkirken with a tasty, seasonal vegetarian buffet and offer atmospheric musical interludes that you will not find in the festival's official programme. Meet the festival's musicians face to face, chat with the person next to you, and test your musical knowledge in the brand-new Baroktober quiz. Places are limited - book your ticket now, and get the evening started before everyone else!
At 19:00 Nordic Contrast
Imagine a distant winter evening, far up in the north, with biting cold, a swirling snowstorm and a dense, all-encompassing darkness. In an isolated turf hut, where the wind howls through the cracks, there are few things to take comfort in. But a woman picks up a simply built stringed instrument, and with her yearning song and playing she spreads warmth around her. Welcome to the dark Iceland of the past! At Baroktoberfest's opening concert, Camerata Øresund and the vocal ensemble Cantoque warm us with old Icelandic folk melodies and the charming Icelandic folk instrument, the langspil. There is singing about love, about nature that gives and takes, and about the joys and sorrows of life - all with a touch of melancholy, if you listen closely. When the wistfulness boils over, we travel further south to Scandinavia, where they did, after all, have apple trees, cornfields and golden halls. Here the king's court musicians filled the room with crisp dance music by the sought-after composers of the day, so that for a while one could forget time and place.
Performers:
Camerata Øresund, the vocal ensemble Cantoque (IS), Höör Barock (SE)
Light installation: Lene Juhl
At 20.30 Nordic Harmony
In the baroque, music knew no borders, and for this concert we continue our Nordic theme with a widened horizon. In the programme we follow Nordic traces in a time when notes travelled freely between countries, courts and cultures. With music by Purcell, Buxthehude, Telemann, Campra and Handel - inspired among other things by the Swedish Düben Collection - a sonic landscape of festivity, celebration and absorption unfolds that knows no borders. Together with Cantoque Ensemble and Höör Barock we celebrate music's ability to move, connect and bring people together across time and place - then as now. A feeling that is heightened by Lene Juhl's imaginative light installation.
Performers:
Camerata Øresund, the vocal ensemble Cantoque (IS), Höör Barock (SE)
Light installation: Lene Juhl
Saturday 24 October
At 19.00 Melancholy and Majesty - string sounds from baroque England
English baroque music holds both deep melancholy and elegant splendour - from thoughtful tones in an intimate chamber format to lively concerti grossi and grand string sounds. In this concert we hear English music from around 1600 up to the middle of the 1700s, when music was played with abandon at court, in church, in the pub and at home. The programme brings together works by both well-known and lesser-known composers such as Dowland, Holborne, Locke, Blow, Geminiani, Avison and Handel. It alternates between chamber-music intimacy and full-blooded string ensemble with basso continuo, and the concert gives the audience the chance to experience the many facets of English baroque - from the heartfelt and absorbing to the energetic and virtuosic.
Performers:
Camerata Øresund
At 20.30 Late night folk baroque
As tradition has it, Baroktoberfest ends with a folk music party, and if you did not know what was missing in your life, you will hopefully know after the concert: More bagpipes! We are visited by the Belgian folk musician Marieke Van Ransbeeck, who with her bagpipes in varying sizes blows us away in both folksy baroque music and baroque-flavoured folk music. Marieke switches between the two genres as the wind blows, and in the end it becomes a great, wonderful whirlwind of music that simply swings. With Marieke's great insight into both baroque music and Nordic folk music, yet another exciting musical meeting arises between two genres that turn out to have a great deal in common.
Performers:
Marieke Van Ransbeeck (BE), Camerata Øresund
At 21.30 Folk dance ball
It is almost impossible to sit still when swinging folk music is being played. That is why the party continues after the evening's final concert, when we invite you to folk dancing under Marieke's instruction. Besides playing, she guides us safely through the steps, so that everyone can join in. A festive end to this year's Baroktoberfest!
