Fabio Luisi continues with DR Symfoniorkestret

Fabio Luisi has extended his contract as chief conductor of DR Symfoniorkestret until the summer of 2032. Since his appointment, Luisi and the orchestra have carried out many exciting projects, including recordings of works by Carl Nielsen and Scriabin. Their latest project is a series of Schoenberg's orchestral works, of which the first release, 'Verklärte Nacht', was launched on the composer's 150th birthday. Luisi's extension ensures continuity in the orchestra's development, and his focus on beauty of sound and phrasing has helped shape the orchestra's musical profile. The extension is celebrated at the season opening on 3 September with Mahler's Fourth Symphony. So writes Magasinet KLASSISK.

Kongelige Kapel in flight chaos before Switzerland concert

Musicians from Det Kongelige Kapel experienced travel problems when ten of them were denied boarding on a KLM flight because of a lack of space for their instruments. This happened during their tour to Switzerland, where they were to perform at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad. The problem arose after a successful concert in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and the musicians left behind were not rebooked to Zürich until the following day. As a result, the rest of the orchestra had to play the first part of the concert without them. KLM has since stated that the instruments were directed to the cargo hold, which the musicians refused. La Scala opens up free streaming

The famous opera house La Scala in Milan has made its streaming service, LaScalaTv, freely available from 1 September 2026. Previously the service required payment, but now you can get access to an extensive catalogue of operas, ballets and concerts simply by creating a user account. The platform contains both new and historical recordings, including works by Gassmann and Mozart. La Scala plans further releases in the autumn, such as Schoenberg's 'Gurrelieder' and Wagner's 'Ragnarok'. This initiative could potentially change the accessibility of classical music for a wider audience. So writes Magasinet KLASSISK.

Maiken Vibe Bauer explores bird voices

Maiken Vibe Bauer has been selected for a residency at Notam in 2027, where she will develop her multichannel sound work 'KOR FOR FUGLE'. The work is based on 33 years of bird counts from Copenhagen's coastal areas and an archive of bird voices.
