The week offers an unusually strong programme, with several of the country's leading ensembles in top form. DR SymfoniOrkestret opens Thursday's offerings with Jukka-Pekka Saraste on the podium in DR Koncerthuset, where the programme ranges from Bartók's impressionistic "Duke Bluebeard's Castle" to more modern orchestral music. The Finnish conductor has put together a programme that explores the inner landscapes of the human being through the orchestra's full palette of sound.

Opera lovers have plenty to choose from this week. Det Kongelige Teater presents both Poulenc's shattering "Dialogues des Carmélites" and Verdi's crowd-pleaser "Rigoletto" on Store Scene, while Den Jyske Opera visits the capital with its critically acclaimed "Don Juan" on Gamle Scene. Mozart's opera about the notorious seducer comes in a new Danish translation and promises drama and musical elegance.

Ballet audiences can experience "Giselle" at Det Kongelige Teater, where the romantic ballet about love and betrayal comes to life with Det Kongelige Kapel in the orchestra pit. The work represents the golden age of ballet with its perfect balance between drama and dance.

Chamber music gets a special mention with Den Danske Strygekvartet, who perform together with DR Pigekoret on Saturday in DR Koncerthuset. This meeting between two of the country's finest ensembles in their respective fields promises a rare listening experience.

Operaakademiet shows this year's production in the Opera's rigging loft, with two French one-act operas by Ravel and Poulenc, accompanied by Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen. Here young singing talents get the chance to shine in an intimate opera format.

Church music takes its place with DR Vokalensemblet's "Voices in the Dark" in both Trinitatis Kirke and Roskilde Domkirke - a Lenten programme that invites contemplation. Sunday's finale comes with ARS NOVA Copenhagen's "To Mary" in Trinitatis Kirke, a contemplative concert that leads the listener into Eastertide.

A week of opera, symphonic music and outstanding chamber music at the highest level.
