The week offers a rare concentration of world-class talent, with Lise Davidsen and Lang Lang as the headline names. On Friday evening the Norwegian superstar comes to Operaen for a complete concert performance of Verdi's Macbeth, with Antonio Pappano on the podium and Det Kongelige Kapel. It will be an event of the highest order when the world's most sought-after Wagner soprano meets the Italian master in collaboration with leading Danish forces.

The same evening, Tivolis Koncertsal presents the new Daphne Award with Lang Lang as the main attraction. The Chinese pianist, who stands as the greatest classical superstar of his generation, plays Rachmaninoff's popular Piano Concerto No. 2 together with Tivoli Copenhagen Phil.

In DR Koncerthuset, Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts Messiaen's monumental Turangalîla Symphony on Thursday and Friday. The Finnish conducting icon, who has shaped the international music scene for decades, leads DR SymfoniOrkestret through this complex masterpiece inspired by Hindu scriptures and medieval tales.

The Nordic profile is strengthened by Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, where Det Kongelige Kapel's solo horn player Claudio Flückiger plays Strauss on Friday in Sønderborg. In Odense, Brahms's Second Symphony is presented combined with Bent Sørensen's Enchantress on Wednesday - an interesting pairing of Romantic core repertoire and Danish contemporary music.

Chamber music is strongly represented by the musicians of Det Kongelige Kapel, who on Sunday morning at Gamle Scene present Finnish and French works. At Musikkonservatoriet, Beethoven's five cello sonatas are offered on historical instruments on Tuesday, while Athelas Sinfonietta continues its experimental series at ALICE with live electronics.

The week ranges from Baroque intimacy to orchestral monumentality, and from established repertoire to experimental contemporary music.
