Balle Kirke
Balle Bygade 164, Silkeborg
Balle Church lies in Balle parish in the former Hids Herred, Viborg County, now Silkeborg Municipality, Region Midtjylland. The chancel and nave were built in the 1100s of finely hewn ashlar over a chamfered plinth. In the church's north wall the original windows can still be seen. The north and south portals are preserved, the northern one in a walled-up state. The west end of the nave was presumably extended in the late Gothic period, a beam in the floor marks the former west gable. The church has had a tower, which in 1703 was so dilapidated that it was replaced with the present bell tower over the west end of the nave. In the late Gothic period a porch was built in front of the south portal. The church underwent a major restoration in 1955-57.
