Gl. Åby Kirke
Åby Kirkevej 1, Aarhus
Gammel Åby Kirke stands on Åby Kirkevej in Åby parish in Hasle Herred in Århus Amt. The church is in the part of the parish called "Gammel Åby". The building was erected in 1872-73, when a restoration of the old parish church was not feasible. It was built to designs by the royal building inspector V.Th. Walther in Romanesque style with an Italian touch. The brickwork consists of bands of yellow and red brick, and the building appears as a traditional Danish village church with apse, chancel, nave and tower. The interior is very simple with a painted wooden ceiling and very few ornaments. The church contains the parish's original granite baptismal font and a copy of the golden crucifix that hung in the first church.
