Haderslev Domkirke

Haderslev Domkirke

Domkirkepladsen 2, 6100 Haderslev

The church was most recently restored in 1941-51, when, among other things, the whole interior of the church was whitewashed. A few wall paintings have been uncovered; in the crossing there are 12 helmeted coats of arms for South Jutland and Holstein families, in the southern transept St Peter can be seen, and in the northern transept St Barbara. The restoration was carried out by the architects Harald Lønborg-Jensen and Helge Holm, whereby the church acquired its present appearance. In the summer of 2009 a major repair was carried out on the south side of the roof, which had gradually become so leaky that it rained in, among other reasons because of worn-thin lead sheets. All the lead sheets were therefore lifted off and had to be hoisted down onto the cathedral square and melted down before being put back up. The spire also had to be taken down and repaired.
