Lundehus kirke
Strødamvej 1, 2100 København
Lundehus Parish has "natural" boundaries and is bounded to the south and west mainly by the railway lines towards Hellerup, Svanemøllen and Farum. To the east by Ryvangens Naturpark, and to the north the parish boundary is the municipal boundary with Gentofte Municipality.
Lundehus Parish was separated in 1938 from Bispebjerg Parish, to which the area had belonged since 1927, when the first part of Grundtvigskirken (Tårnkirken) was consecrated. On that occasion Bispebjerg Parish was separated from Brønshøj Parish with the old medieval church from around 1180. The area around the old Emdrup village was for centuries the easternmost part of the large Brønshøj Parish, which stretched from Damhussøen to Øresund.
During the 1930s the flats in Ryparken had been built, and a wish arose among the residents for their own church.
The manufacturer Julius Hansen, whose knitwear factories lay between Gartnerivej and Bomhusvej, made a plot and a building available. That was the first Lundehus Kirke.
The building still stands on Rygaards Allé, and is part of the City of Copenhagen's children's institution "Rypen" (formerly "Lillegaarden").
This was a temporary arrangement, and the congregation quickly began to collect money for a more permanent church. At that time church building could not be financed from the church tax. Because of building restrictions in the period after the war, however, the loan of the building on Rygaards Allé had to be extended.
Only after almost 20 years was the new Lundehus Kirke completed in the park area by Strødamvej - a plot that the parish council had, in an almost miraculous way, been allowed to buy from the City of Copenhagen.
The church was consecrated on the first Sunday of Advent - 1 December 1957.
