Sorø Klosterkirke lies in Sorø and was built as a burial church for the Hvide family. The most famous of the Hvides, Bishop Absalon, summoned Cistercian monks from Esrum Kloster in 1161 to build the church and the monastery. The monks built in the new material of the day, brick. It was finished when Absalon died in 1201. He was buried in front of the high altar, and many of the Hvides have their burial place in the church. The same applies to King Christoffer II , Queen Eufemia and their son, King Valdemar Atterdag. Source: Wikipedia (Sorø Klosterkirke)
