Tivolis Koncertsal
Vesterbrogade 3, 1630 København
Tivolis Koncertsal lies in the heart of Tivoli and was originally built in 1902 in Moorish style by Richard Bergmann and the Tivoli director Knud Arne Petersen. In 1944, during the German occupation of Denmark, it was blown up in an act of revenge against the Danish resistance movement.
The present version of the concert hall was built in 1954-1956 to designs by Frits Schlegel and Hans Hansen. In 2005 the concert hall was modernised and the public areas adjoining the hall were greatly extended, including a glass foyer (Rotunden). Inside the hall an orchestra pit has been added and the colours of the hall have been returned to the original ones. Beneath the concert hall lies another foyer, Akvariefoyeren, with Europe's longest saltwater aquarium. On the other hand, the concert hall's original entrance towards Tietgensgade was torn down, whereby the artist Mogens Zieler's large mosaic Musik-dyr was lost.
The Eurovision Song Contest 1964 was held in Tivolis Koncertsal.
