Halloween: film music from the dark

Rui Marques

,

Rolf Kristian Larsen

Description

As darkness falls and the October evenings grow longer, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra brings some of film history's most spine-chilling sounds to life. Together with the actor Rolf Kristian Larsen, we will create an evening where the music creeps under your skin. From the ice-cold notes of The Dark Knight to the iconic theme from Jaws, we encounter music that sends shivers down the spines of audiences all over the world. John Williams' nerve-racking shark fanfare and Bernard Herrmann's legendary knife scene from Psycho are among the moments that have defined what fear sounds like. In Danny Elfman's music for Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas we meet the vulnerable and the melancholy. Meanwhile, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells draws us into an unsettling mood, familiar from The Exorcist. Through music from films such as Halloween, The Ring, Hannibal, The Grudge, It and Pirates of the Caribbean, we meet the composers Hans Zimmer and John Carpenter, who have shaped modern film music and our collective idea of fear. In the music from Villmark 2 we sense the eeriness hiding in the dark forest. An evening of goosebumps and dark atmosphere - and a reminder of why we love being scared! Recommended age limit 12 years, due to the use of effects in the concert hall Performers: Rui Marques, conductor Rolf Kristian Larsen, host
