Julian Rachlin

Description

Conductor: Per Kristian Skalstad Soloist and conductor: Julian Rachlin, violin Programme: Richard Wagner: Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde (1859) Alban Berg: Violin Concerto – To the Memory of an Angel (1935) Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90 (1883) This evening we meet our own chief conductor Julian Rachlin, both as conductor and as soloist in Alban Berg's Violin Concerto – an intimate and moving work that unites modernist colours with human warmth. When Rachlin puts down the baton to play, Per Kristian Skalstad takes over leading the orchestra. It is also Skalstad who conducts Wagner's Liebestod, one of the most iconic highlights of Romantic opera. Afterwards Rachlin returns once more to lead Brahms's 3rd Symphony, a work that combines broad power, lyrical elegance and the mature calm that marks Brahms at his most personal.
