50 years and 20 fingers

Description

Concert with Désirée Paulsen Bakke and Jorunn Marie Bratlie. «Together we have worked at NMH for nearly 70 years. We have been friends for 50 years, and have given several concerts together. As a rounding-off before we both retire, we want to mark our friendship and playing together with a full-length evening,» write Bakke and Bratlie. The concert is part of both of their R&D work at NMH. Programme Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn (1732–1809), Op. 56 b Chorale St. Antoni: Andante Var. 1: Andante con moto Var. 2: Vivace Var. 3. Con moto Var. 4. Andante Var. 5: Poco presto Var. 6: Vivace Var. 7: Grazioso Var. 8: Poco presto Finale: Andante Witold Lutoslawski (1913–1994) Variations on a Theme by Niccolò Paganini (1782–1840) Sergej Rakhmaninov (1873–1943) Suite No. 1 for two pianos, Op. 5, Fantaisie Tableaux 1. Barcarolle At dusk half-heard the chill wave laps Beneath the gondola's slow oar ...once more a song! once more the twanged guitar! ...now sad, now gaily ringing, The barcarolle comes winging. "The boat slid by, the waters clove: So time glides o'er the surge of love; The waters will grow smooth again, But what can rouse a passion slain!" – Lermontov 2. La nuit ... l'amour (The Night ... Love) It is the hour when from the boughs The nightingale's high note is heard; It is the hour when lovers's vows Seem sweet in every whisper'd word; And gentle winds, and waters near, Make music to the only ear. – Byron 3. Les Larmes (Tears) Tears, human tears, that pour forth beyond telling, Early and late, in the dark, out of sight, While the world goes on its way all unwittingly, Numberless, stintless, you fall unremittingly, Pouring like rain, the long rain that is welling Endlessly, late in the autumn at night. – Tyutchev 4. Paques (Easter) Across the earth a mighty peal is sweeping Till all the booming air rocks like a sea, As silver thunders carol forth the tidings, Exulting in that holy victory... – Khomyakov CC: Free admission
