Max Richter: Seasons Recomposed
Eldbjørg Hemsing
Description
Eldbjørg Hemsing is soloist in Max Richter’s version of The Four Seasons What happens when one of the most performed works in history is taken apart and put back together by one of the most streamed living composers? Max Richter has done exactly that with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, and when the virtuosity of the Baroque meets the hypnotic drive of minimalism, something entirely new emerges. With Eldbjørg Hemsing as soloist, past and present merge in a musical journey that gives Vivaldi’s best-known work new life. Max Richter: Seasons Recomposed Vivaldi’s «The Four Seasons» is one of the best-known classical pieces of all time and is used in films, advertisements and more. Few people do not know the opening of «Spring». In the work Seasons Recomposed, the German composer Max Richter (b. 1966) has taken Vivaldi’s work apart and composed it anew, much like a re-poeticisation in literature. It was common to do this in Vivaldi’s own day as well, so one can imagine that it is something Vivaldi himself would have liked. Very little of Seasons Recomposed recalls the original. What he actually uses of Vivaldi’s music is looped and distorted, so that it fits into Richter’s typical minimalist style. Performers: Eldbjørg Hemsing, soloist and director from the violin
