Description
Programme Mette Henriette, (1990–) Overture I–III (2020) Aram Khatsjaturjan, (1903–78) Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 46 (1940) – Allegro con fermezza – Andante sostenuto – Allegro vivace INTERVAL Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 Fate Symphony (1804–08) – Allegro con brio – Andante con moto – Scherzo. Allegro - Trio – Allegro About the concert Adam Hickox and TSO present one of the rock stars of the classical music world, when the French-Serbian Nemanja Radulović takes the stage in a concert that spans from the open Norwegian-Sami coastal landscape via Armenian highlands to the world's most famous musical motif: bam-bam-bam-ba… Mette Henriette is an exciting shooting star in our classical sky. The Sea Sami composer's Overture I-III reflects the Sami perception of time in a cycle where the order can thus be random, and which opens up a wide musical soundscape. Khatsjaturjan's violin concerto came as a breath of fresh air from the east right after the Second World War and became an international audience favourite. A concerto full of humour and charm, of challenging virtuosity, melancholy intensity and eastern Armenian exoticism. The world star Nemanja Radulović plays this concerto with all the bravura and emotional depth it deserves, and it has indeed become one of his showpieces. The leap is perhaps not so great to Beethoven's intense and passionate Symphony No. 5, even though it is heavier, both emotionally and musically. When fate knocks gloomily, the door is opened to this symphony and to Beethoven's entire emotional register; his grief, his suppressed rage, his melancholy, his pain, and his enthusiastic outbursts - these feelings fill the whole work. Together with melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and sonic components they make up a personal and innovative work; a worthy and mighty universe that confirms Beethoven's genius.
