Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony

Description

Hear Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony In his very last hours, Richard Strauss is said to have remarked that dying felt exactly as he had composed it in Tod und Verklärung, 60 years earlier. Simone Young conducts the magnificent symphonic poem together with Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony, inspired by the Indian Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. In this concert two great works from the late Romantic tradition meet. Strauss's symphonic poem stands side by side with Alexander von Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony, a work that both Berg and Schoenberg drew inspiration from. Programme: Richard Strauss: Tod und Verklärung Alexander von Zemlinsky: Lyric Symphony Performers: Simone Young, conductor Maria Bengtsson, soprano Wolfgang Koch, baritone
