– beautiful and captivating We close the season as we began it, with sparkling music-making between star cellist Truls Mørk and our own chief conductor, Adam Hickox, in a concert that truly plays on the strings of the emotions. Prokofjev's Sinfonia Concertante overflows with lovely melodies, many of them lyrical in the turns of phrase that underline the cello's foremost character traits. The work plays on the full range of the instrument's possibilities, and the orchestration is beautifully balanced against the solo cello. In Symphony No. 4 we meet a Tsjajkovskij who has truly found his "voice" and who pours a wealth of emotion and lovely melodic lines into a symphony that is dramatic, melancholy and beautiful all at once - one of the masterpieces of late Romanticism.
