Nordic Voices is a Norwegian vocal sextet started in May 1996. The ensemble consists of six members trained at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Norwegian Opera Academy. The repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to more recent and modern classical music. In addition to concerts in Norway, the choir has toured and performed in a number of countries, among them the USA, Taiwan, Japan, South Africa and several European countries. Nordic Voices received the Fartein Valen Prize in 2008 and the Gammleng Prize in 2010 in the art music category. In 2007 they released the album Reges Terrae with music from the 1500s recorded in the medieval basilica of Ringsaker kirke in Hedmark. For the album they were nominated for the Spellemannprisen 2007 in the classical music category. In 2008 came Djånki Dong with music by Norwegian composers such as Lasse Thoresen and Cecilie Ore. Unusual techniques such as overtone singing are central elements on the record. Lamentations came the following year (2009), with music by, among others, Gesualdo, Palestrina and Victoria. In 2012 came Himmelkvad with Lasse Thoresen's Opus 42, which won the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2010 and which was written especially for the ensemble. In 2017 came The Bee Madrigals with music by Bjørn Bolstad Skjelbred. Nils Petter Molvær takes part on the album. The album has an ecological perspective, with the theme of the dying of the bees.
