OscarsborgOperaen is a non-profit foundation established in 1998 by Anne Felberg and Terje Boye Hansen under the name Oslofjord operafestival. Up to 2023 we have produced 16 full-scale opera productions in the courtyard at Oscarsborg Festning for over 120 000 audience members. OscarsborgOperaen is one of Norway's 6 regional opera companies with annual grants from the state, county and municipality. OscarsborgOperaen was called the Nordic "Arena di Verona" by the magazine «OPERA», a recognition of our high artistic quality and our unique location. The courtyard has 100% natural acoustics and a unique historical atmosphere. The total experience package of a boat trip, the experience of being on a historically beautiful island, opportunities to eat a good meal and to stay overnight, proves to be very popular with a steadily growing audience. We are known for giving many young soloists good opportunities for development and for having one of Norway's very best opera choruses. In 2023 we turned 25 and celebrated it with the work «Kommandanten», a newly written opera about the events of 9 April 1940 at Oscarsborg.
