Den Levende Strygekvartet - with Arild Kvartetten and Karen-Lise Mynster
Fortæller: Karen-Lise Mynster
Description
A poetic and musical tale with Arild Kvartetten and Karen-Lise Mynster Join us on a wondrous musical journey as Arild Kvartetten plays the development of the string quartet through a string of gems, starting with Haydn. More than any other single composer, it was the tireless Joseph Haydn who created the modern idea of the string quartet as four individual musicians working together to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts. The quartet then continues with works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and many more – ending with the Danish composer Bent Sørensen, who in 2025 composed the work Retrospection especially for the occasion. The audience can look forward to a total of 16 works, which together tell 244 years of music history. Experience the music in a new context as the actress Karen-Lise Mynster reads newly written texts by Rosalinde Mynster – her daughter, who is also an actress and writer. A quartet – in more ways than one A string quartet is two things: a performing ensemble – a group of instruments – and a musical composition written for that ensemble: two violins, a viola and a cello. And for Rosalinde Mynster it can also be an image of a family. She explains: “It is fascinating to think how the four voices of the string quartet have held together in the same constellation through the centuries. Shaped by history, by the composers' visions, by aesthetic and political currents. There is something moving about that continuity. It has made me think of the quartet as a family – a small organism where the individual personalities hold together, talk, argue, mirror and shape one another over time. My text is a lyrical tale about four siblings and their life together. As with the quartet's four voices, they each tell it with their own sound, each with their own view of the shared story. We follow them from the playful innocence of childhood, through the vulnerability of youth, to adult life, where they drift apart – and find each other again, matured by the world and by life. I look forward to hearing the story and the music unfold together.” Arild Kvartetten For almost two decades, Arild Kvartetten has made its mark as one of Denmark's most prominent chamber ensembles. With a clear vision and an uncompromising sense of sound and ensemble playing, the quartet has built a repertoire that ranges from classical cornerstones to striking contemporary works. Arild Kvartetten's interpretations are marked by a rare maturity and intensity, and their stage presence has won recognition from audiences and critics alike. The four musicians are Tobias Durholm, violin – concertmaster of Det Kgl. Kapel and first violin of Arild Kvartetten. Stine Hasbirk Brandt, viola – violist in DR SymfoniOrkestret and a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. Johannes Søe Hansen, violin – violinist in DR Symfoniorkestret, where he has been 1st concertmaster for 30 years. Ingemar Brantelid, cello – after a career as principal cellist of Det Kgl. Kapel, he has now devoted himself fully to chamber music. Karen-Lise Mynster Karen-Lise Mynster was born in Aalborg.
