HAYDN'S CELLO CONCERTO AND BEETHOVEN

Description

This concert revolves around the period at the end of the 1700s, when the old world collapses and a new world order begins to break through. The balance of power is challenged, and the nobility loses influence to the new bourgeoisie. Vienna is the centre of music, with Haydn and Mozart as the great heroes, but here too new winds begin to blow. And Beethoven is a pioneer: Symphony No. 1 is clearly rooted in the Classical tradition, but at the same time has the energy-charged aesthetic that marks the transition to Romanticism. The conductor is the young and extremely promising Misha Shekhtman, who has just won 1st prize in the Ferenz Fricsay International Conducting Competition. The cello soloist in Haydn's Cello Concerto is the 1st solo cellist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Christopher Franzius. Duration: approx. 1 hour 30 min, incl. interval Programme: W.A. Mozart: Overture to The Marriage of Figaro J. Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 L.v. Beethoven: Symphony No. 1
