Description
Deep love, painful jealousy and dark secrets. The master choreographer Cathy Marston lifts the legacy of one of the greatest novels in literary history. After an unhappy childhood in foster care, the young orphan Jane Eyre chooses to begin a new life and trains as a teacher. In her search for freedom and independence she is taken on as a private tutor at the estate Thornfield Hall, where the encounter with the enigmatic owner, Edward Rochester, proves fateful. The seemingly ill-matched pair fall in love, but Jane must come to realise that Edward carries a great sorrow that threatens their happiness. The author behind Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë, is the eldest of the three famous, writing Brontë sisters, and her gothic novel caused a great stir when it was published in 1847. Not least the sombre atmosphere and the supernatural elements fascinated the Victorian audience of the day. And on top of that they were presented with a slightly rebellious heroine with strength, intelligence and courage, and thus with a new and different portrait of a woman's longings and inner struggles. The English choreographer Cathy Marston, who in recent years has made a strong name for herself as one of the ballet world's sharp storytellers, unfolds Jane's eventful life in a work that is at once an intense and dramatic chamber drama and a grand, captivating narrative ballet.
