“Love Actually” – Christmas Concert with Vallensbæk Kirkers Kor
Jakob Lau Grove, dirigent
Description
The concert is a tribute to the film “Love Actually”, which has ended up being one of the most-watched romance films at Christmas. It is a British romantic Christmas comedy from 2003, in which, in the weeks leading up to Christmas, we follow a large ensemble cast and the film weaves together 10 different love stories. The film was written and directed by Richard Curtis, who gave the music a very large and active role in the story, as Curtis deliberately used the soundtrack to bind the 10 different stories together and underline the big emotions – from the highly romantic and festive to the deeply melancholy. For this concert Vallensbæk Kirkers Kor sings several choral and solo versions of the well-known pop and soul songs that are key scenes in the heartbreaking film, including the song “Both Sides Now” (Joni Mitchell), which is used in the film’s perhaps most heartbreaking scene, where Karen (played by Emma Thompson) stands in the bedroom crying in secret after discovering that her husband has bought an expensive necklace for another woman, but also the song “Jump (For My Love)” (The Pointer Sisters), in which the British prime minister (played by Hugh Grant) gives it his all in his infamous, improvised dance routine through the corridors of 10 Downing Street. So come and hear the songs at this super-festive Christmas concert, where the churches’ new choir, Vallensbæk Kirkers Kor, also gets its very special “debut”, under the direction of the organist Jakob Lau Grove. Admission to the concert is free, but registration is required via the registration form below.
