The Star Conductor and Mozart

Dirigent: Oksana Lyniv / Solist: Illia Ovcharenko, klaver

Description

The Ukrainian star conductor Oksana Lyniv returns to the conductor's podium in front of Copenhagen Phil – this time with her compatriot Illia Ovcharenko as piano soloist. And the music has been carefully chosen for tonight, for Franz Xaver-Mozart grew up in Denmark but wrote his music in Lviv, in present-day Ukraine. It is music that is close to Oksana Lyniv's heart. Everyone knows Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Fewer know Franz Xaver Mozart, his youngest son. Growing up in the shadow of a genius was no easy task, and Franz Xaver lived with his father's fame. Nevertheless he was an extremely talented composer and pianist, and his Piano Concerto No. 2 from 1818 bears witness to a personal and sensitive voice, rooted in Viennese Classicism but with an eye to the dawning Romanticism. That he was a close friend of his contemporary Schubert seems obvious when one hears the music. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was at the peak of his creative power when in 1788 he composed his last symphony, Symphony No. 41, the so-called Jupiter Symphony. Here his entire symphonic mastery is gathered in a major work of the Viennese Classical era. The finale is famous for its contrapuntal virtuosity, but the whole symphony radiates abundance and balance. The Magic Flute became Mozart's last opera and unites fairy tale, the ideals of the Enlightenment and human warmth. The irresistible overture immediately strikes a mood of seriousness, play and humour. Programme: W. A. Mozart / The Magic Flute, overture F. X. Mozart / Piano Concerto No. 2 W. A Mozart / Symphony No. 41
