Schumann & the Pioneers

Description

From Schumann's Symphony No. 2 to a Danish world premiere - four generations of musical innovation. What does it mean to be a pioneer? This concert brings together four composers who each in their own way moved music in a new direction: Robert Schumann, Elfrida Andrée, Grażyna Bacewicz and Niels Rønsholdt. The programme ranges from the great symphonic tradition of Romanticism to a Danish world premiere. On the podium is Paweł Kapuła, who has just made his critically acclaimed debut at the BBC Proms. The evening opens with Elfrida Andrée's concert overture. Next comes Niels Rønsholdt's Run Don't Walk, written for the guitarist Jakob Bangsø and Danmarks Underholdningsorkester and performed for the first time at this concert. Between past and present stands Bacewicz's Pensieri Notturni. The culmination of the concert is Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 2, one of the great masterpieces of Romanticism. Duration: 2 hours and 10 min. incl. interval. Programme: Elfrida Andrée / Concert Overture in D major Niels Rønsholdt / Run Don't Walk, for solo guitar and orchestra (world premiere) Grazyna Bacewicz / Pensieri Notturni Robert Schumann / Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61
