Cinderella

Dirigent: Damian Iorio

Description

Love at first sight. That is what Cinderella and the prince experience when they meet at the ball at the palace. And who doesn't dream of that? Familiarity and the joy of reunion are important ingredients when children are to experience ballet for perhaps the first time. And here one of the world's most iconic fairy tales ticks every box. The tale of Cinderella is known and loved by every child, and in Gregory Dean's ballet version the romance has been turned all the way up. To Prokofiev's lyrical music the story is told of the poor girl with the good heart who, despite great obstacles along her way, finally learns that justice comes to those who are patient and who deserve it. This version of Cinderella is based on Charles Perrault's tale from 1697, and it has everything a proper fairy tale should hold – joys and sorrows, the triumph of the good over the wicked, and the lovers who must go through a terrible lot before it can all end happily. And on top of that the immortal cast of characters: a thoroughly wicked stepmother and two more or less scheming stepsisters, but fortunately also a magical fairy godmother, a host of gentle fairies and a most charming prince. Gregory Dean is a former solo dancer with the Den Kongelige Ballet and has among other things choreographed the full-evening ballets Blixen and Gotta Dance! His Cinderella is a classic story for both children and adults about how love, hope and an open mind can defeat even the darkest darkness. Recommended from age 6
