Description

Few people had heard of Igor Stravinsky before his breakthrough work Petrushka. This gripping, catchy ballet music, written in 1911, portrays a puppet brought to life in an orchestra that sparkles with mischief and elegance. The Finnish conductor Eva Ollikainen, who is based in Denmark, makes her long-awaited debut with DR Symfoniorkestret in Stravinskij's colourful ballet score, but she also brings music from her homeland. In his symphonic fantasy Pohjola's Daughter, Sibelius channels the cries of Finland's rune singers and creates a tone poem of shamanistic intensity. The music of the South Korean Unsuk Chin is among the most respected and imaginative of any living composer today. Following her collaboration with DR Symfoniorkestret in connection with the Sonnings Musikpris in 2021, she has written her new trumpet concerto - commissioned by DR Symfoniorkestret - for the legendary trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger. Expect both structure and sensuality, an enchanted forest of orchestral sound and brilliant moments at the work's Danish premiere. Programme: Sibelius / Pohjola's Daughter Unsuk Chin / Trumpet Concerto (Danish premiere) Stravinskij / Petrushka
