BALTIC AFTERNOON

Description

Mikalojus Čiurlionis is a gentleman we do not run into every other day in a Danish context - but at this concert we shall make the acquaintance of the most famous work by this distinctive Lithuanian composer and painter: the dreamlike and poetic symphonic poem Miske [In the Forest], with OS conducted by Čiurlionis's very young compatriot, the Lithuanian/Finnish conducting comet Arijus Sereckis. Sereckis was born in Finland to Lithuanian parents and studies conducting with Finland's conductor 'nestor' Jorma Panula. At OS we look forward to welcoming the young major talent to our podium for a matinee in which he conducts music from both of his home countries: we conclude the concert in Finland with Sibelius's Symphony No. 1, where we find the characteristic clarinet/timpani introduction that leads us discreetly into the dark Finnish forest depths, dramatic and nature-saturated Baltic landscapes - and a full-blown symphonic storm along the way. Programme: Čiurlionis: Miske [In the Forest] Sibelius: Symphony No. 1
