Description
Before Christmas comes knocking at the door, we round off the classical year with a BIG, symphonic evening containing nothing but masterpieces from three of the very greatest: We start in the neighbouring country of Norway, where we go with Peer Gynt on a journey through the first suite from Grieg's legendary incidental music. Afterwards we welcome back to Odense last year's winner of Carl Nielsen Fløjtekonkurrencen, Federico Altare, who leads OS in Mozart's wonderful Flute Concerto No. 2. And then we end the evening with one of the most popular and beloved symphonies in music history, namely Dvořák's legendary Symphony No. 9, nicknamed ”From the New World”. The symphony came into being in 1893, while Dvořák was director of the conservatory in New York, and is his take on a work that could reflect America's own national musical style. Get ready to be hit straight in the heart by the familiar melodies of all four movements, overwhelming rhythmic energy and deeply moving nostalgia. Programme: Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 Mozart: Flute Concerto No. 2 Dvořák: Symphony No. 9, From the New World
