The society's history goes all the way back to 1866, and throughout all these years it has been an indispensable part of Odense's musical life. Under the name Odense Musikforening, concerts were held - at first with an emphasis on vocal music, but for many years now with a particular focus on chamber music performed by established ensembles.
In the 150th anniversary year of 2016 we changed our name to Kammermusik Odense to signal that we are in no way a closed society. On the contrary, we welcome everyone to experience chamber music - the musical genre that many classical composers have enriched with some of their finest works.
In putting together our programmes we strive to present both the mature, well-established ensembles and the young up-and-coming ones - but always at the highest professional level.
The society's activities are financed by members' subscriptions, ticket revenue, absolutely necessary grants from public and private contributors, and the voluntary work of the board members.
