The festival's history begins in 2009 with Midsommerbarok – created by harpsichordist Allan Rasmussen, recorder player Bolette Roed and priest Michael Hemmingsen. It was their close friendship and shared passion for baroque music that became the foundation of a festival tradition which has now, for 16 years, brought musicians, volunteers and audiences together in a special community. This year we focus on precisely the friendships that arise through music – between composers, musicians, generations and audiences. This is reflected in this year's programme, where we welcome both old acquaintances and new artists: Arte dei Suonatori, Reiko Ichise, Fredensborg Slotskirkes Pigekor and more – as well as David van Laar (NL), the vocal ensemble LuX (SE), Gonville & Caius College Choir (UK) and the French recorder player Pierre Hamon with his daughter Ananda Brendão. The concerts take place in Trinitatis Kirke, Vor Frelsers Kirke and Riddersalen at Rosenborg Slot – settings where past and present meet, and where music can create new connections. 🇺🇸🇬🇧 The festival traces its roots back to 2009, when harpsichordist Allan Rasmussen, recorder player Bolette Roed, and pastor Michael Hemmingsen founded Midsommerbarok - a festival born out of their close friendship and shared love of baroque music. That same spirit of connection and collaboration continues to define the festival today. This year’s programme is a tribute to the friendships forged through music - between composers and performers, parents and children, colleagues and audiences. You’ll experience returning favourites like Arte dei Suonatori, Reiko Ichise, and the Girls’ Choir of Fredensborg Palace Church, alongside exciting newcomers including countertenor David van Laar (NL), vocal ensemble LuX (SE), Gonville & Caius College Choir (UK), and the pioneering French recorder player Pierre Hamon with his daughter Ananda Brendão. Concerts will take place in Trinitatis Church, the Church of Our Saviour, and the Knight’s Hall at Rosenborg Castle - beautiful venues where music brings people together across generations and borders.
