Klosterkirken Horsens
Borgergade 30, 8700 Horsens
Horsens Klosterkirke is a church near the centre of Horsens, built between 1261 and 1275. In the Middle Ages it formed the northern wing of the town's Franciscan monastery, which was founded in 1261 by the knight Niels Manderup of Barritskov. Several kings, Erik of Pomerania, Christian 1 and King Hans, held meetings and court sessions in the monastery. After the Reformation it was handed over by Frederik 1 to the townspeople as a parish church. The church is built of monk bricks. Only few remains of the oldest church exist, which consisted only of a nave and chancel - it was heavily rebuilt around the year 1400, when, among other things, the vaults in the chancel and the triangular stair tower in the north-eastern corner were built.
