Prokofiev, Hartmann and Kurtág - Chamber music with Arktisk Filharmoni The newly restored banqueting hall at Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum is perfectly suited to chamber music, and here we get to hear three pieces for different quintet line-ups. The concert opens with music by the modernist György Kurtág, who turned 100 earlier this year. His wind quintet has an almost explosive expression, in which fragile silence alternates with short, violent outbursts. Hartmann's dance suite is also for five wind players, but in a neoclassical style, where we hear four cheerful and humorous dance movements. Prokofiev's quintet was originally written as a ballet for a travelling circus ensemble. With sharp, driving rhythms, one can recognise a kind of circus character even though the work is here played as a pure concert piece.
