Description

Dreamy French sonorities, Nordic tones and boundless Romanticism meet in this evening's programme, led by the Finnish conductor Emilia Hoving. Hall's atmospheric Verlaine Suite opens the concert with impressionistic tones inspired by the French poet Paul Verlaine. The Finnish clarinettist Christoffer Sundqvist is the soloist in Sebastian Fagerlund's powerful and virtuosic clarinet concerto – a commissioned work that explores the instrument's many expressions and tonal colours. Berlioz's iconic Symphonie fantastique rounds off the evening – a dramatic and imaginative symphony regarded as one of the most groundbreaking works of Romanticism.
