Description
Begin the pre-Christmas season with Handel's immortal masterpiece, Messiah. Let yourself be thrilled by the jubilant Hallelujah chorus and mighty choruses such as Glory to God and For unto us a Child is born. In the oratorio Messiah, Handel combined all his gifts as a musical dramatist and opera composer to create a work that has captivated audiences for almost three hundred years! Handel's Messiah is one of the most performed and best-loved oratorios in music history, full of both drama and heartfelt feeling, visions, cries of jubilation and sorrowful stillness. It is said that Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759) did not spend long writing Messiah, in fact only 24 days. The premiere, which took place in Dublin, was a great success, and it is said that the crush was so great that the women were urged not to wear hooped skirts and the men were asked to leave their swords at home. There will be an interval after the first part. Programme: Georg Friedrich Händel / Messiah
