Oslo-filharmoniens kammerserie: Scandinavian folk music for many strings In this chamber concert, musicians from the Oslo-filharmonien invite you on a musical journey through Norway, Sweden and Denmark, where traditional folk tunes are arranged for string quartet. Together with the Hardanger fiddle and the brand-new Hardanger cello, a soundscape is created that shows how composers such as Johan Svendsen drew inspiration from our shared Nordic musical heritage. A chamber group of musicians from the Oslo-filharmonien will in this concert present traditional folk tunes and slåtter (Norwegian folk dance tunes) arranged for string quartet. Here Norwegian, Swedish and Danish melodies meet in styles both delicate, calm, rhythmic and dancing. From Norway we hear the bridal march from Seljord, the reinlender from Ål and Tjønneblomen, while Sweden contributes polskas and the dance song Kristi du kom, and Denmark is represented by the ballad Stædelil, Sønderho brudestykke and Drømte mig en drøm. Traditional Hardanger fiddle sound in interplay with the brand-new Hardanger cello gives an authentic Nordic colouring to the whole. The concert ends with the third and fourth movements of Johan Svendsen's String Quartet in A minor, Op. 1, which shows how the composer drew inspiration from the expressive world of folk music. This programme has a strong local identity and character, with roots reaching far back into the Nordic musical tradition. The rich and varied sound world of folk music is performed here in a classical string quartet version.
