Description

Few people know that Beethoven wrote the music for the ballet Prometheus in 1801, on commission from the Italian ballet master Salvatore Viganò. While the music is intended to entertain more than to move, the myth of Prometheus must have appealed to Beethoven on a deeper level. Themes such as enlightenment, freedom and human development are just as relevant today. The internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Melissa Hough creates an entirely new ballet to an excerpt from the music of Prometheus - for this festival! This will be an evening where music, movement and mythology meet. The Engegårdkvartetten plays the String Quartet in D major, Op. 18 No. 3, before Beethoven's grand and irresistibly joyful Septet closes the concert. Premiere of new choreography for the ballet Prometheus - Melissa Hough and the festival ensemble String Quartet No. 3 in D major, Op. 18 No. 3 - Engegårdkvartetten Interval Septet in E-flat major, Op. 20 - Maria Włoszczowska, Juliet Jopling, Amy Norrington, Jose Gavira, Pierre Xhonneux and Marie Solum Gran
