John Williams' Piano Concerto

Description

Emanuel Ax is the soloist in John Williams' Piano Concerto From the Hollywood pioneer Korngold, via the Star Wars master Williams, to the Russian Romantic Rachmaninoff: here three composers meet who all mastered the art of creating great emotion in music. Williams' fresh piano concerto, premiered in 2025, was described by the soloist Emanuel Ax as among the most difficult things he has ever played. Rachmaninoff's last great work, Symphonic Dances, is a melancholy farewell to the homeland he had to flee. Korngold's overture to the film The Sea Hawk shows why he is regarded as the father of film music.
