The Barber of Seville

Description

The Barber of Seville is one of the opera world's most comic stories - a musical comedy full of complications, infatuation and cunning plans. We meet the charming barber Figaro, who with quick-witted lines and even quicker solutions helps the young Count Almaviva to win the heart of the beautiful Rosina. The pace is high, the melodies are immortal, and laughter comes easily as disguises, misunderstandings and secret agreements become entangled with one another. This is opera at its most playful - elegant, energetic and irresistibly entertaining. Rossini's music is bel canto (beautiful singing) at its finest - with long, well-shaped vocal lines, spellbinding arias, ensembles with bite and a refined, lyrical orchestration. The Barber of Seville is the best known of the genius composer Rossini's many operas.
