Kulturkirken JAKOB opened as a new cultural stage in Oslo in February 2000. Musicians, actors and audiences are unanimous in saying that the space has exceptionally good acoustics and atmosphere. The sound system is praised as one of the best in the country, and the grand piano likewise.
The church is a stage without equal in Oslo and the only purely cultural church in Norway. Here there are theatre performances, art exhibitions, concerts and special events.
The church space is flexible, with world-class lighting and sound facilities and pleasant backstage conditions for artists and actors.
In the church's lower floor, Jakobs Brønn has been fitted out as an exhibition space. Smaller performances and events can also take place here. Across all art forms, JAKOB wants to show the possibilities of the church space as an arena. The ambition is to be a driving force for increased use of churches in general as theatre stages, concert halls, dance stages and art galleries.
